PARENT'S POEM TO CHILD

Life has changed,
in a split second of time.
Now a stranger lives within.
The stranger isn't leaving,
the familiar can not return.
Life has changed.
Unavoidably, I miss the familiar,
your dreams, your goals, the old you.
But emotion can not change things.
Life has changed.
There are now new goals,
there is now a new you.
I now love the stranger,
Life has changed.
You are different from the old you.
You have empathy for others,
you understand the pain of life.
You take time to comfort others,
Life as changed.
The stranger has a new purpose,
to guide others through the maze.
The familiar may not have taken the time.
Life has changed.
The familiar would have liked the stranger,
now you must learn to accept you.
You are now that stranger,
so you would have liked you!
Life has changed.
